Today was Workout II (in my four-workout cycle). The focus of WII is upper body weights and cycling. I took up the stationary bike – even though it’s kind of boring, sorry bike – because I can’t run as much these days with injuries and asthma. It helps a) to have music b) to have something to read and c) to pretend I’m training for a triathlon. (Which my busted ass certainly won’t be doing any time soon but imagining it makes me temporarily feel like a badass rather than a busted ass.)
- Warmup: elliptical trainer, 10 min, medium intensity
- Dumbbell chest press on a stability ball
- Standing dumbbell shoulder press
- Dumbbell raise
- Dumbbell triceps extension
- Dumbbell rows
- Stationary bike: 30min (completed distance: 6.3 mi), Interval program, level 7/25
Today’s difficulty: UGH. I can tell I haven’t done weight work in a while. I’m tired. (I’m also tired because I was out late last night with beer and work people, but hush.) I predict soreness and whining tomorrow.
Future changes: I can’t decide whether the dumbbell raises are worth it; they did hurt when doing them, I guess, but I want to put the rows sooner because they’re a more “important” one and I’d be able to do more weight if I were less crapped out. Also, bring a damn protein shake to drink while I’m biking.
